Dark Cafe 03:03
Dark Cafe (Music: Kemner, Lyrics: Kemner/Wake) It’s dark in the cafe the piano falls apart my suitcase is on fire the waitress playing cards the band plays only half the notes they started far too late it’s not that they don’t know the tunes it’s just they’re underpaid The crowd is getting crazy they’ll start to sing real soon the cops will come complaining that they’re singing out of tune the leader of the band – he’s sleeping at the bar he never sees the daylight and he drinks out of a jar Then suddenly an apparition walks into the bar she buys a drink and then she seems to smile from afar and then she’s standing next to me and asking for a light and telling me that this won’t be an ordinary night Now with my apparition we wandered through the town she told me strange and wondrous things we watched the moon go down and then she took me to a place where I had never been but that’s another story that I better not begin ...

Take Me for a Ride (Wake) Wouldn’t trade you in if you broke down don’t need the latest model long as you’re still around don’t care about the fins, don’t care about the chrome – just like the ride when you take me home … take me home – take me for a ride … take me up the mountain and down the other side Now I don’t mind if the road gets rough I just slow down I got time enough and I don’t mind a bump or two just as long as I can ride with you take me home – take me for a ride … take me up the mountain … take me up the mountain and down the other side You can blow a gasket, slip a gear burn more oil than you did last year but I ain’t never had a ride so smooth as the ride I get when I ride with you take me home - take me for a ride take me up the mountain and down the other side

Henry 03:59
Henry (Music: Kemner, Lyrics: Kemner/Wake) Now here’s a story ’bout Henry Bones he used to deal in mobile homes did some time for minor crime but most of the time he stayed in line hey Henry ... hey Henry hey Henry ... hey Henry what’s the matter with you He used to wear them pointy shoes and high-priced silk Italian suits he always said I’d rather die than go to work without a tie Henry, Henry, what’s gone wrong Henry, Henry, please come on what’s the matter with you? Henry, Henry, don’t do that cause if you do you’ll soon be dead and furthermore your feet get wet so put your shoes on right away ... Henry! There came a time when things got weird and Henry grew a bushy beard his friends were shocked, his family clueless Henry sockless, suitless, shoeless Henry, Henry, what’s gone wrong Henry, Henry, please come on What’s the matter with you? His clients said he’s gone insane his colleagues said “we’re not to blame” one by one they all resigned but Henry, he really didn’t mind Henry, Henry, what’s gone wrong Henry, Henry, please come on what’s the matter with you? Henry, Henry, don’t do that cause if you do you’ll soon be dead and furthermore your feet get wet So put your shoes on right away ... Henry! Strangely now he’s overjoyed to be on the street and unemployed no one telling him what to do he’s a vagabond without his shoes Henry, Henry please explain have you really gone insane? what’s the matter with you? Henry, Henry you’re in trouble living here amidst the rubble get your ass back on the double pull yourself together now ... Henry!

about

Jim Wake & Sleepwalker Netherlands

Jim Wake and Sleepwalker, like the musical traditions in blues, rock ’n’ roll, and rhythm blues from which the band draws inspiration, is an experience defying easy description. It is music that swings, drives, bumps and grinds, moans and groans, screams and shouts, and then steps back and turns introspective, plaintive, or nostalgic. ... more
